Every other brand on the test loses people between naming the logo and naming the team. Allwyn gains them, which is what a partnership built entirely inside the sport looks like.

The reading comes from the BoxBoxd Brand Recall Index, a test the motorsport audience takes on the platform through the 2026 season.

A sponsor logo appears blurred with no name attached and the audience answers three questions in order: name the brand, name the team it belongs to, then say where the branding appears on the car. Allwyn was tested 499 times. 86.8% named the brand, 90.8% attributed it to the right team and 46.7% said where it appears.

A brand the audience met in the sport

Allwyn is a lottery operator owned by the Karel Komárek group. It became an official partner of the sport in 2025 and an official partner of the McLaren team in February of the same year, then extended the sport wide deal in a multi year agreement in 2026. The activation covers formation lap branding, a fan prediction platform and the Global Community Awards, which fund organisations linked to race host cities.

Recognition of 86.8% is the second lowest of the eleven brands, which follows a name most of the audience had not seen before it entered the sport. Attribution of 90.8% is fourth highest, 4.0 points above its own recognition score.

Why can attribution beat recognition?

The two questions measure different things and are asked in sequence. A respondent can fail to produce the brand name from a blurred logo and still know exactly which partnership it belongs to once the association is prompted. That is the profile of a brand whose entire public meaning was built in the sport.

Placement of 46.7% is above the grid average of 46.1%, which for a partner without a permanent car panel is a strong reading. The prediction game and the formation lap branding are participation rather than exposure and participation is what the third question rewards.

Does the answer change with allegiance?

Sorted by the team each respondent supports, Allwyn attribution runs from 98.1% among McLaren fans to 85.7% among Williams fans, a spread of 12.4 points. McLaren fans lead the table, which follows the team partnership running alongside the sport wide deal.

What a category entrant should read into it

A brand with no prior consumer recognition is usually told it needs volume, the biggest possible surface for the longest possible time.

This reading says the opposite is available. Where the whole meaning of the brand comes from the partnership, the association converts at a rate the established names cannot reach.

Jim Beam, in its first season with Cadillac, shows the early stage of the same curve at 71.9% recognition and 71.9% attribution.
