Audi F1 audience data: the Hülkenberg extension is a market decision, not a pace one

Audi, 2026. Germany reads three times its platform share inside this audience.

A two year Hülkenberg extension at Audi has been reported. The paddock will argue about pace. The audience data points somewhere else, at a German market the calendar ignores, a driver who converts followers into supporters of the badge and the most active base on the grid stuck in its second worst mood.

Germany is the market Audi holds, with no race to serve it

Germany takes 14.1 percent of the Audi audience against 4.4 percent of the sport as a whole, an over index above three to one on the home market. Only the United States, at 17.8 percent, weighs more inside the base. The US block reads at roughly its normal platform level.

The calendar has twenty four races in 2026 and not one of them is in Germany. No German Grand Prix means no home weekend, no trackside activation on home soil and no domestic broadcast peak.

The driver is the only German asset the brand can put in front of that base every second weekend, which reframes what the extension is for: Hülkenberg is the media plan for the one market Audi over indexes in.

Who Audi fans really name as favourite driver

The two Audi drivers hold 38 percent of their own base as favourite driver, Bortoleto at 19.9 percent and Hülkenberg at 18.1. Verstappen and Piastri, who drive for other teams, hold 30.3 percent between them inside the Audi camp. Almost a third of the base carries its heart to a rival garage.

The index column corrects for fame. Verstappen at 15.9 percent inside this audience is under indexing his platform share at 0.6. Hülkenberg at 18.1 percent reads 45.2 times his platform share, the strongest driver to team pull measured on the grid.

Bortoleto reads 33.2 times his own. Neither Audi driver is a star of the whole sport. Both are stars of exactly this base.

The conversion argument for the extension

The number the contract debate misses: 54.4 percent of the Hülkenberg audience names Audi as the team it supports, against 41.5 percent of the Bortoleto audience.

Bortoleto arrives with Brazil behind him, a national following attached to the driver. Hülkenberg has converted more of his following into supporters of the badge itself.

Conversion is the asset a team keeps when a driver eventually leaves. A follower of the driver walks out with him. A supporter of the badge stays. On that reading, the veteran on the reported two year extension has done more brand building for Audi than any result on track has.

The most active audience on the grid, in its second worst mood

The Audi base out engages the whole sport on every behavioural line. 28.3 percent log races against 21.6 across the sport. 79.5 percent write reviews against 76.7. 68.8 percent returned from last season against 65.2. Six in ten own merchandise of a team that has barely raced. Members average 4.4 race logs each, above the platform norm.

The mood line is the warning in the file. The Audi audience holds a happy index of 48.9 out of 100, the second lowest on the grid above only the Red Bull Racing base at 45.8, with a season rating of 2.9 out of five.

An audience this engaged and this unhappy is an audience that shows up anyway, which is loyalty a partner can build on and patience a team should not test.

What this means for Revolut and the Audi partners

Revolut holds the Audi title in 2026 and every partner behind it bought the same profile: the smallest measured base on the grid with the loudest engagement behaviour in it, a home market at three times its platform weight and no home race to activate in.

The extension question is usually framed as a sporting one, is the veteran quick enough. The audience file frames it commercially: the German market Audi holds gets addressed by exactly one asset on the payroll.

That asset converts followers into badge supporters at the highest rate measured. That is what a two year extension buys, whatever the stopwatch says.
