What do fans think of AI sponsors in F1?
Eight AI deals were signed in six months, on the one category the audience names out of place without being asked.
Sponsorship in this sport passes three billion dollars in 2026 and the category signing fastest is artificial intelligence, eight deals in six months by one market count. The audience had already answered the question nobody asked it: which category does not belong here.
The category fans call out of place
The panel asks an open question, which brand currently in the sport feels completely out of place, with nothing to pick from.
Grouped by category, AI and assistants take 25.9% of the answers that named a brand, four times the next category. Media and streaming reads 6.7%, confectionery 4.7, alcohol 3.5 and betting 3.2.
The finding is not that fans hate technology, the same audience works in it more than any other industry. The finding is that AI is the one category whose presence the room questions spontaneously, at the exact moment the sport fills up with it.
Six AI deals, one at every team that counts
The map at the start of 2026: Anthropic at Williams, Google at McLaren, IBM at Ferrari, Microsoft at Mercedes, Oracle at Red Bull Racing and Salesforce with the championship itself.
Technology has overtaken financial services as the largest commercial sector in the sport and AI is the fastest growing line inside it.
Every one of those partnerships was signed into the rejection number above. That is not an argument against the deals, category rejection at entry is normal, crypto read the same way in 2021. It is an argument for measuring the number instead of assuming it.
What the audience wants from technology instead
The same panel asks what fans would change about the broadcast first. 70.6% name more driver radio. Live data overlays, the feature closest to what most AI activations build, reads 11.1%.
The appetite is for what a driver says, the human layer. Every AI product on this grid is being built on the other side of that number.
For an AI partner the brief writes itself backwards: the audience does not want a smarter dashboard, it wants more access to the humans. An AI activation that surfaces radio, voice and story reads with the demand. One that ships another data panel reads against it.
Rejection is a curve, not a verdict
Category rejection at entry is a starting position, it changes with activation quality. An AI brand on this grid can track its own number round by round, the share of the audience that files it as out of place, against every campaign it launches, then name the product accordingly.
The difference with the last hyped category is measurability: crypto entered loud, spent big, left before anyone measured what it changed.
The AI wave enters with a panel that reads the rejection curve continuously. Six brands are on it. The ones that watch it will spend better than the ones that do not.
